On the equator lies Uganda. On its eastern border is a district named Sironko. And in it is a sub-county called Buhugu.

Buhugu is beautiful, green, with mountain backdrops and a mild climate. People are friendly, and generous. You'll be welcomed with open arms.

According to the 2002 census:

There are about 24,000 people in Buhugu. Around half of them are under 15.

Lugisu is what you'll hear spoken as most people belong to the Bagisu ethnic group.

Mud houses with iron sheet or thatched roofing is the norm. No one is homeless in Buhugu.

Most people are subsistence crop farmers.

Water is fetched from protected wells and springs or from open sources such as a river. Food is cooked using wood fire.

Most people have access to a water source within a kilometer from their home, and a primary school and a health center with five kilometers.

Word of mouth and radio are the primary means of information gathering.

Most people have some primary school education, but not beyond.
